4 year old boy killed by a toppling gravestone when visiting a cemetery with his great-grandmother

When ten years after a similar fatality, the same calls for gravestones to be checked are repeated

What happened?

A 4 year old boy was visiting a cemetery in England with his great-grandmother when a gravestone (or memorial stone) fell and killed him.

Legal Outcome

N/A.

What can we learn from what happened?

This is a fairly recent event, and there is limited information regarding this tragic accident that is easily available.  No doubt in time there will be an inquest which will explore the circumstances in more detail.

The reason for including this fatality in the library is because a previous case study covered the death of an 8 year old boy who was killed by a falling gravestone ten years previously, so the circumstances are similar.  The media reports since the boy’s death have raised the need for safety checks to be carried out, just as they did ten years ago, so this all seems sadly familiar.
