Anyone who is interested in learning about or is required to be qualified as a First Aider and will enable you to deal with an accident or injury in the workplace. It will qualify you to diagnose a variety of possible illnesses and injuries and will enable you to assess the need to seek further medical attention. The First Aid at Work course may help you meet your legal requirements to provide first Aid in the workplace as well as being a valuable life skill.
Anyone who is interested in learning about or is required to be qualified as a Paediatric First Aider and will enable you to deal with an accident or injury to a child or baby. The course is suitable for anyone looking after young children.
To avoid the duplication of topics associated with attending both the First Aid at Work and Paediatric First Aid courses separately, the Combined First Aid at Work and Paediatric First Aid course has been specifically designed for those who work in settings that require both First Aiders and Paediatric First Aiders, such as schools, sports clubs or other childcare settings.
Course Summary
First Aid at Work covers a wide range of topics within its syllabus, including the principles of first aid, legal requirements, CPR (resuscitation), treatment for shock, heart attacks, head injuries, spinal injuries, fractures, burns, soft tissue injuries, heat related illnesses. Other important topics include poisoning, seizures, asthma, allergic reactions and eye injuries.
Paediatric First Aid covers a wide range of topics but focuses on dealing with accidents and emergencies involving young children. It includes the principles of Paediatric First Aid and the legal requirements. The syllabus covers assessing casualties, unconscious casualties, CPR (resuscitation), treatment for shock, wounds and bleeding, burns and scalds, disorders of consciousness – including head injuries and seizures, sprains, strains and fractures, poisoning, bites and stings, foreign objects and childhood conditions (meningitis, croup, febrile seizures etc.)
Length/Format
18 hours. Delivered over three days.
Pre-requisites
None. Learners must be at least 16 years of age.
Assessment
Nine Practical Assessments and Two Multiple-Choice Assessments. The tutor will also continually assess learners to ensure the necessary standards have been achieved.
Certification
Certificate issued by Qualsafe Awards. The qualification lasts for three years when the learner must attend the full three-day Level 3 First Aid at Work and Paediatric First Aid Combined course. Alternatively, the learner can attend either a Level 3 First Aid at Work Re-Certification or a Level 3 Paediatric First Aid course if they want to re-certify either of the two qualifications.
